A short welcome from Headteacher, Mr Sellors
St Thomas’ is a lovely and friendly school situated in the parish of Our Lady and St Thomas of Hereford in Ilkeston.
We have 237 very kind and welcoming children at the school; excellent teachers and excellent facilities.
We aim to provide an environment, which is safe, happy and nurturing, so that all our children can learn effectively. Every individual is valued and their successes are celebrated. We have high standards of behaviour within an educational environment that challenges and motivates, which is all underpinned by Gospel values and a love of Christ.
St Thomas’ is a popular school. We have a Pupil Admission Number (PAN) of 35 in each year group. This means we admit 35 into our Reception class each September. A very large majority of children who start with us in Reception stay at the school until the end of Year 6, when most then move on to our feeder Catholic Secondary school, St John Houghton. This means that we rarely have spaces for in year admissions or for admission into Year 3 from infant schools.
The Admissions Authority for Our School
The St Ralph Sherwin Catholic Multi Academy Trust is the admission authority for all the schools within the Trust and is responsible for determining the admissions policy. On behalf of the Trust the admissions process is coordinated by the relevant Local Authority.
All decisions relating to admission applications will be taken by the Governing Body of the Academy applied for.
The schools within the Trust are principally provided to serve the Catholic communities of Derbyshire and the surrounding counties. The Governors also welcome applications from all parents and carers, regardless of faith or background, who would like their children to be educated in a Christian environment.
Overview of the Diocese of Nottingham
St Thomas’ Catholic Voluntary Academy is under the Trusteeship of the Diocese of Nottingham and belongs to the Nottingham Diocesan family of schools. They are founded by and are part of the Catholic Church and seek at all times to be a witness to Jesus Christ. Religious Education and worship are in accordance with the teachings and doctrines of the Catholic Church. This does not affect the right of parents or carers who are not of the faith of these schools to apply for and to be considered for places. We ask all parents or carers applying for a place to respect this ethos and its importance to the school community.
